College of Marin offers class to become
solar panel installers
http://www.marin.cc.ca.us/
"The American Solar Energy Society predicts that renewable energy will
constitute 25 percent of all domestic labor by 2030, at which point
there will be 40 million available jobs."
An entry-level solar installer earns about $15 an hour, while a more
experienced worker can make up to $30 an hour.
The College of Marin's course is
patterned after a similar program
launched in spring 2008 at Skyline
College in San Bruno and paid for
through the Skyline Collaboration, a
program created by the California
Community College Chancellor's Office of
Workforce and Economic Development. While other colleges offered programs
in solar technology, Skyline's was
unique because it asked industry
professionals to create the course
curriculum, teach the class and hire the
graduates.
